Cannot set employee on expense report

Hi There

In the standard UI, I have created a workflow for expense reports which is supposed to disable the 'employee' field display on before record load.

This works for all other fields.

However, this does not work for the employee field

There is also no way to set the value of the employee field using a workflow.

Is this a limitation?
