Built in way to track Consumable Inventory across Mutiple jobs

Good Day.

We are trying to find a good way to manage inventory that is issued to Technicians that is not consumed on a single job (i.e. 500' of wire, boxes of fittings)
Wondering if there is way to show it assigned to a technician?
Some employees have mentioned a "Field Order" which sounded like a Sales Order likes to the Tech.

Is there something built in? Could I use a Sales Order? Are there any considerations for doing so?
