Why is there an exchange rate on transactions and bank accounts in same currency?

Hi There

The base currency of the subsidiary I am transacting in is Australian Dollars.

A vendor exists with a primary currency of Japanese Yen. The transactions with this vendor are paid out of a bank account denominated in Japanese Yen (JPY)

Why would there be an exchange rate field on the prepayments transaction when paying the supplier for a JPY transaction from a JPY account?
