changing serial numbers

Hi,

We fulfilled a sales order about 3 months ago with wrong serial number of the item shipped. The period is now closed. What is the best way to change the serial number of the unit shipped? We do not want to do unnecessary creadit notes, RMA etc.

We need a solution so that any reports about which serial number was sold to who reflects the right serial number.

Happy to open the period if required.
