Customer Shipping address notes/Instructions

I need to store customer specific shipping notes/instructions.
-ABC Company has 4 different ship to locations we ship to. Each address has it's own instructions with a level of uniqueness.
- I do need to source them down the path of Pick ticket and Packing slip etc.

Looking for input on what others have done with this. Using a custom field on the address record, or use a custom record? Has anyone created a custom address tab on the customer record and not used the out of box tab?
