Approvals using Employee Centre role in a group

Following on from my previous post (https://community.oracle.com/netsuite/english/discussion/4513524) we now have a problem when using users with the Employee Centre role in a group (both static & dynamic).

Selecting the approval link from anywhere (email or desktop) results in a Permission Violation: You need a higher level of the 'Transactions -> Purchase Order' permission to access this page. Please contact your account administrator. error. Changing the approval rule to name them directly as the next approver works fine. Anyone come across issues with using employee groups on approvals before?
