Defaulting chart of account segment for asset depreciation

When an asset is created, the Fund Class segment of our chart of accounts is defaulted as a balancing segment. However, when depreciation occurs, the system is not using the same Fund Class from creation, and is using a generic value for all assets. Controller would like to have Fund Class (segment of our chart of accounts) map to the asset depreciation and not just asset creation. For example, asset create is 10-XXXXX-105...and the depreciation is hitting 10-XXXXX-000... Is there documentation that easily outlines steps/process to configure system to automatically use the value based on the funding on the invoice/order during asset
