PDF printing is disabled in APEX on autonomous database

Summary

How to get a printout in APEX without AOP

Content

APEX is just great and gets better all the time. Just created my autonomous database, transferred all the APEX applications from my schema service to cloud, uploaded the dump file, imported the tables, everything was just ok, until I tried to print. We all know now that pdf printing is disabled in APEX on an autonomous database, and that we need to pay Apex Office Print (a commercial product) to get a printout. All the XSL-FO reports that were working before through ORDS are now useless.

I am sure that AOP is a great product, but going through all these hoops just to get a printout seems to be just a hassle. The report printouts that were available from the classic reports will not print. Why does Oracle just not buy or license the product and make it part of the metered payments? I do not want my data to go outside and I do not want the bother of installing the AOP Print server and maintain it (and its not cheap either).
