EDMCS Application Type for PCMCS

My organization is currently in an implementation for PCMCS (Profitability & Cost Management Cloud Services). As far as I can tell the Planning and Planning Modules application types are not the appropriate type of application to setup for PCMCS. Has anyone been successful in using either of these application types, or has everyone been using universal applications for maintenance of allocation drivers in PCMCS?

I have not seen mention of PCMCS applications on this forum since May of 2020. Does anyone know if the PCMCS MDM is on the roadmap for EDMCS?
