Can attribute based planning enabled propagate project and task with hard pegging enabled in item?

Can attribute based planning work without enabling hard pegging in item master attributes? If we map project and task to Attribute based planning, does it need Hard pegging attribute in item master to be set up as Project and task for Planned order to be generated with same Project and task assigned to sales order project and task? or can hard pegging to planned order from demand travel without hard pegging attribute not enabled and defined with "None" value? Readiness material is silent about it. So, please let us know. Thanks,
