Course and Offering numbers in published SCORM - needed?

Summary:

When we were set up on Oracle, we were told that best practice was to publish all SCROM files with the course and offering numbers as created. The reason was for better tracking on the back end? We've been following this process, the best as we can, but are wondering if it actually has any benefit. There are some courses that we have SCORM files from external parties and therefor don't have the systems backend course/offering numbers and they respond just fine. I'm asking if it truly has any benefit because it's a pretty clunky process between the LMS Admin
