Serial Number as a Workaround for Nested LPN

Can Item Serial Number be used as a Workaround for Child LPN?

I understand that WMS does not support Master/Child LPN (Nested LPN). However in case that is a must, can we use Item Serial Number as a workaround to represent Child LPN?

Note: In my workaround, Child LPN is always a single unit.

Have you heard anyone doing Nested LPN that way? Any pitfalls in your mind? Any other workaround is available for Nested LPN?
