Need help understanding how the Archive function works in Demand Planning Measure expression

I need some clarity on how the "Version" part of the archive function works.

Content (required):

We have a process where we archive a particular measure at one point in the month as a way of freezing that measure for comparison, this is the SIM Uncons Fcst (which is our unconstrained forecast). One or two weeks later after we have gone through the constraining process we archive a different measure SIM Cons Fcst (which is the Constrained forecast). Next planning cycle we do the process over again, so the measures included in each archive version are always different, changing back and forth between Uncons Fcst and Cons Fcst.
