Unable to Edit the start date of a replaced Item in Item structure

Summary:

in item structure we are replacing a component with future effective start date and end dating the existing component.due to change in the supply & demand for the item we want to edit the start of the item to a different date but during edit the start is not editable. it is not allowing to change the date. this is impacting multiple items .how can we re-edit the start date.
