New joiner e-Learning - updating specialisations best practice?

Summary:
We have two versions of a 'New joiner' specialisation, which are automatically assigned based on hire date to Employees, and the other version to Non-worker Unpaid.
When we update one of the courses contained within the specialisation, we currently have to duplicate the specialisation, put an end date on the learning initiative and set up a new learning initiative.
This is because some of the courses, e.g. data protection, are updated annually.
We were warned by our implementation partner that we shouldn't just update the existing specialisation; to my understanding this is due to:
A) People yet to start will see Data Protection 2023 only - great, this is what we want.
