Can anyone provide what will be the impact of changing the Item name

Summary:

We are trying to update the item name for an item that already has transactions, on onhand etc., Will there be any Impact on the transactions? Is this a good suggestion to update the name of the item or should we create a new item instead and do the SKU change activities(Adding onhand, transactions cutover etc)
