Contract expiration notification based on a DFF (date format)

Summary:

Client need an additional expiration notification, based on a Descriptive Flexfield (created as date format, in the 'Additional Information' region on the Contract Overview page).

Could this be achieved and which option would be best suited: OTBI analysis/agent (triggering a notification to the Contract Owner, based on the Date entered in the DFF field), or by building a report bursting?
