Inventory organization with associated customer

I have a question about the functionality of associating a customer with an Inventory organization.
Content:
In Oracle help center documentation it defines what is used for transfer orders. But when I make a transfer order with the customer-inventory organization as the destination, it is no different than making a transfer order with a normal inventory organization.
Can you help me understand this functionality a little better?
Or in what practical cases is it necessary to associate a customer with an Inventory organization?
