Project Forecast auto updated and spread

We need to understand why this project forecast was spread over a period of months automatically - what process would trigger this, what settings define how its spread, and how does that spread work. The project manager was not expecting this as he had already entered his forecast numbers in 2024 and then came back to view the forecast and it was spread into 2025 as well
