If you end date an account combination, does this impact processing accounting rules?

Summary:

We are planning on end dating a handful of account combinations and providing alternate accounts for those that are end dated so that create accounting doesn't fail. We have mapping sets that reference these end dated account combinations.

Will there be any issue using these mapping sets still? We want any end dated combinations to still be processed through the mapping sets/accounting rules and then go to the alternate account.
