Org By Period vs. Updating Ownership?

Summary:

What makes Org By Period better than updating ownership?

After updating the hierarchies and the ownership — for example, in Jul24, two entities are within/under Region 1, with 100% ownership in Region 1. In Aug24, they move to Region 2, with ownership 0% in Region 1 and 100% in Region 2.

I am trying to do a data comparison, but I do not see any difference
