Help/advice with Development Plans

Looking for some help, advice or ideas.  Here's the situation.  We currently use Development Plans to group together a series of assignments for our learners which becomes their new hire training plan.  These assignments are quizzes that are completed after on-the-job training.  Each Development Plan has a completion timeframe of 4 months.  We have recently created and implemented an online course that we want to include in the training of our new hires and others who have already completed their new hire Development Plan.

I know we can add items to a Development Plan at any time but, if a user has already completed a plan when a new items is added, their entire development plan goes back to being incomplete (because of the timeframe setup for the plans).  We don't want that to happen.  We need to retain the completion of the development plan and find a way to make it easy for the user to understand their is a new requirement which is part of their overall training plan.

Howdy, Stranger!
