Description:
In the rapidly expanding landscape of AI services, developers have more options than ever. For any given use case involving AI, there are often multiple ways to build a solution, sometimes making it difficult to know which approach is best.
With Oracle Database 23ai, developers can build solutions that search structured and unstructured data such as text, documents, images, and videos using technologies like Select AI (natural language to SQL), Vector Search, and RAG Agents. Often, the preferred application front end is Oracle APEX, which enables developers to build applications that call custom PL/SQL functions to implement search functionality. In APEX 24.1, the AI Assistant was introduced, and in 24.2, AI Configurations were added. These features allow developers to easily build chat-based search functionality without writing custom PL/SQL code.
As yet another approach to database search use cases, this session will demonstrate how to use these new capabilities, explain how they differ from existing methods, and outline when to use each alternative.
Agenda:
- Introduction to APEX AI Assistant
- Developer productivity considerations
- Enhancing end-user application functionality
- Configuring AI Service
- Hands-on comparison of chat-based search functionality across different approaches, with pros and cons of each
Presented by:
- Derrick Cameron, Master Principal Cloud Architect, Oracle
- Shayne Jayawardene, Senior Cloud Engineer, Oracle
