Eloqua Bulk API form submit activity exports – Update to linked Contacts (Aug 2019)

Version 6

    Overview

With the arrival of Eloqua release 19C (Aug 2019), we are modifying how Contacts are linked to Bulk API form submit activities, by setting the Contact that’s mapped to the Visitor, if there is a Visitor record linked to the form submit activity.

    What's changing?

Prior to 19C, linked Contact information for form submit activities via the Bulk API was only included if a Contact Id was set upon form submission and it would not change, even if the Visitor was linked to a different Contact at a later date. Additionally, if there was not a Contact Id inserted at the time of form submission, a Contact Id would not be added later, even if the associated Visitor was linked to a Contact at a later date.

With 19C, Bulk API form submit activities will set linked Contact information by looking at the Contact mapped to the Visitor record, if there is a Visitor record with a mapped Contact linked to the form submit. If there is not a Visitor record, or the Visitor record is not mapped to a Contact, then the Bulk API will use Contact Id that was set upon form submission.

    Notes:

    • This update only impacts Bulk API form submit activity exports
    • With this update, the linked Contact information for a Bulk API form submit activity can now change, e.g. the Visitor being mapped to a different Contact at a later date

    Next Steps

If retrieving form submit activities with linked Contact information via the Bulk API, prepare for Contact information to be set by the Contact that’s mapped to the Visitor, if there is a Visitor record linked to the form submit. Additionally, prepare for the possibility the linked Contact information can now change for Bulk API form submit activities.

    FAQ

Q: What Bulk API exports are impacted by this change?

A: Only Bulk API form submit activity exports are impacted.

Q: What is the benefit of this update?

A: This update will increase the number of form submit activities that include Contact information, as the Contact Id being set upon submission required specific form configuration. This update will also more closely align the Bulk API with the Application API endpoint to retrieve form submit activities.

Q: What happens if the Visitor is linked to a Contact different than the Contact Id set upon form submission?

A: The Contact mapped to the Visitor is used in this case.

Q: What happens if the Visitor is linked to a different Contact after submission?

A: If the Visitor is mapped to a different Contact later on than the most recent Contact information, i.e. the Contact currently mapped to the Visitor, is exported.
