re-registering old backup files

How do I re-register old backup files that are unarchived from tape with the recovery catalog so one can accomplish a point in time recovery?
The files were removed from the rman catalog through the delete obsolete command after they met the criteria of a 5 day recovery windows. 

Please advise.
