Best Practice for assigning Task Number

 Hello,
We are on R12 and the current setup is to use the Task Name as the Task Number.  We would prefer to have it be a numeric field and auto-generated.  The ideal would be to have it copy from the outline number and update as tasks are inserted.  Any advice or guidance will be greatly appreciated.
