disk archive config question

If we were to setup disk archiving for copy 1, should the size of the disk archive be larger or smaller than the samfs filesystem?   For example:

sam1 - samfs filesystem
disk01 - disk archive (copy1)
tape01 - tape (copy2)

Should the size of disk01 be larger than sam1?

We were thinking of using the disk archive to make quick archive copies, and wait until we get a large archive set before copying to tape.  That way we have at least 1 copy if the filesystem has problems, and we write to the tape a little more efficiently.  The plan is to unarchive automatically off disk01 after 1 week.
