Can a stale archive file be staged back?

Hello

I saw the following question on the samqfs email alias and wanted to post it in the community. 

can a stale copy be staged back?

A user overwrote a file, and wants the original back.  The original is on tape, but a dump was not taken with it on tape.  Copy 1 on tape has been overwritten already.   We have idled the archiver to prevent loosing the the pointer to copy 2.   can we force a stage of a stale file?  we released the newly overwritten file and tried to stage it back and received the message below.


[root@ux-003 ~]# sls -D /export/qfs/continue/file1
