What's the point on allowing a system configuration profile criteria associated multiple hosts?

Hello,
What's the point on allowing a system configuration profile criteria be associated with multiple hosts?

I don't know if after creating a profile I can remove host specific parts from it.
But if so, then I wouldn't have an automated installation anymore, right?
