Hello world .... hope someone has a definitive answer to this one. There's a world of conflicting and confusing chatter out there.

Thing is, I've got a 64-bit oracle installation - here is the output from v$version:

SQL> select * from v$version;

BANNER
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oracle Database 11g Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production
PL/SQL Release 11.2.0.1.0 - Production
CORE 11.2.0.1.0 Production
TNS for 64-bit Windows: Version 11.2.0.1.0 - Production
NLSRTL Version 11.2.0.1.0 - Production

SQL>

Running on windows Server2008 R2 Standard service pack 1

We also have some proprietary 32-bit software, so have to have a 32-bit client as well. This has been working fine for a couple of months. However, it (our proprietary software) won't start any more, and the reason given is :

Howdy, Stranger!
