Sourcing - "Project Sourcing" field on sourcing header

Looking for information about the  "Sourcing Project" field on the RFQ header page. What do you gain by putting in a project number?  It doesn't appear to pull in any information on the header about the project i.e. team member, project description or title, etc..  Does this have any impact on PPC (Project, Planning, and Control) reporting?  Any info would be greatly appreciated.
