Initial population of new-to-JDE inventory amount

I'm working with a client who is bringing a commodity item that had been managed outside of JDE into JDE. When we go live, we will determine the current inventory amount and add that to a JDE warehouse location. My question is around best practice for this situation.

So far, in the test environment, I tried an IA which worked. I had to assign the LOT manually.

I created a purchase order and received it with the warehouse as the supplier and the ship-to (same address book number). This also worked.

Are there any downsides to either of these options? Are there other preferred methods for this scenario?
