You can use the same calendar as GL but it's the period types that really matter. If you're using the same period types then any periods added appear in both GL and PA. Once you've set the period type in your implementation options for an OU and transacted it you cannot change this setting. If you have different period types for GL and PA then you can add additional PA periods without impacting other areas. There are multiple ways that the GL period can be selected on your transactions if your PA and GL periods are different and you definitely need to understand these options.
