Interclass Conversion: (need transaction between Foot and Roll)

we need to understand relationship between Class, Conversion and Unit of Measure.

1.Class: it is a group of UOM with similar characteristics

For ex: a. Length is a class with foot, centimeter, each, meter uom's sits under one class

                         b. Period is a class with week,month,year,half-year uom's defined under this class which has similar characteristics. etc

    2. we should have base unit for every class, which is used to perform conversion between uom's in the class

    3. conversion: it is the conversion defined with respect to base unit. we can define

               a. common conversion to any item (standard )

b.conversion for a specific item within  the uom class (intra-class)

c.conversion for a specific item between the uom classes (inter-class)

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    for our requirement:

    1. inventory-->setups-->uom-->classes : find length class is defined and find if Foot is defined and "Base Unit" is checked

    2. select length click on units of measure: observe all uom's belongs to this class

    3. Add Roll RL and description at the end of the list

    3. select Conversions  Add "Roll" at the end of list and defined the conversion like "1 roll = 3937 * foot"

now, you can use the new uom.

    thanks,

    thanks,

You say that you buy the item by foot but issue as roll. Are the rolls all of the same length? Do you have other things that you stock in this way?

You need to define these rolls carefully. For accuracy and to keep options open for other roll lengths, the UOM needs to be Roll200ft etc and you need to think about the 3 char uom code.
