Basic Projects SuiteFlow Question

Business Case:
I am looking to send an email using SuiteFlow when a new BASIC project is created.

Question(s):
1. From a data perspective, how do you tell the difference? In the UI it is obvious what a project is and what a customer is; however, I cant find any data that differs between the two.
2. Additionally (question 1), has anyone successfully done this and if so, what was the condition you built?
