Salesforce integration

Hi all,

So far we were using salesforce.com for the sales activity (no NetSuite yet).
Our intention is to keep using it, having it integrated with NetSuite.
Currently, there are no actual transactions in salesforce.com but only leads, contacts and customers (accounts).
*We also record opportunities...

Can anyone please put some information about how this integration project/activity looks like?
How much effort do we need to put in to it?
How is the synchronization between the two systems work in practice (in general)?
How often they are being synchronized so both of the systems are up to date?
