Expiry date mandatory on lot item receipt ?

Hi all

Does anyone know if it's possible to make the Expiry Date on a receipt for a lot-numbered item mandatory ? I can't see which record to be scripting to get this to work. I've tried the Item Receipt, but it doesn't seem to trigger any client script when that sub-form opens. I've looked at a workflow but again it doesn't seem to have anything that's relevant.
