Show Message Action After Cancel Sales Order Button is Clicked

My operations team would like a message to show up after a user clicks Cancel Order on a sales order if a custom checkbox is checked. I've toyed around with some workflow triggers in Sandbox but I'm unable to come up with how it would trigger. Is it possible to show the message when the Cancel Order button is clicked? We'd also like to extend this logic to apply when the Create RMA button is clicked as well.

Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks!
