Is there a way to copy text from a Netsuite standard field to a custom field?

Hi,

Here is the situation. I want to copy the text in the MPN (Manufacturer Part Number) on the item record to a customer field on the PO. Whats the best way to do this? When I go to print the PO my customer field (MPN) is there by the text from the item record standard field (MPN) does not show up on the PO customer field (MPN).
