Updating an Extension - changing SASS file

Hello,

We are running Suite Commerce and have a developer which has added some extensions to our site. I want to make some CSS changes to them.

Could I update the SASS files instead of using SMT and adding a custom HTML content type with the change?

If I updated the SASS file, would I have to re-manifest the extensions with the JSON and stuff or would the extension just need to be activated and re-activated?
