Create custom PO line field to show line quantity balance (not received) to print on pdf form?

Hi,

I created a custom field to show the open quantity for the PO lines, but cannot get it to print on the basic pdf print form. It prints an Error message that is probably saying the field does not exist. If I change the custom field to store the value, the field no longer calculates on the PO and the Error message is no longer on the pdf(field is blank). Editing and saving the PO record has no affect on the results. Is there a way to get a custom field to that is derived from
