workflow set field value action is not working

We are using Message in Task to communicate internally.

The Message field is set as Empty Before User Edit.

We created a Rich Text field Long Message Backup to store all historical messages. Before User Submit, if Message is not empty.

Long Message Backup = nlapiDateToString(new Date(), 'datetime') + " " + nlapiLookupField('employee',nlapiGetUser(),'firstname') +": " + {message} + {custevent_long_message_backup}

When I tested it. Sometimes it works and sometimes not. I don't understand why.

Can you please help to check?
