Support Tab on Custom record ?

Can the native Support tab not be associated to a Custom record?

I'd like to leverage the existing functionality for Case management to a Custom record to allow users to Create and manage Cases similar to how they would from a Customer record.

I suppose I could create a Cases sublist, but, I'd prefer to leverage existing functionality where possible.
