Credit sublist not defined in customer payment record

If a load a customer payment (SuiteScript 2.x record.load) that has credits that are visible in the UI, the 'credit' sublist is not present when I call record.getSublists() despite being defined in the SS Records Browser. If a create a new customer payment (record.create/save) that has invoices and credit memos, this saves and displays in the UI correctly however I am still unable to access the 'credit' sublist of the record.

Has anyone faced a similar situation?
