Item parent record only one that can be selected

Hi There

I have the following scenario:


There is a 'parent' item (a box) which is made up of two child items.

The parent item is the item that is sold to customers and purchased from a manufacturer. The child items are not purchased or sold separately.

Is there a way to set this item up so that only the parent item can be selected on purchase order or sales order transactions and not the child items?

The child items need to be recorded in Netsuite to allow barcodes to be entered for them
