How is US Sales Tax Rates updated?

We've noticed for the state of Kansas, that the rates that are in NetSuite are drastically different from what is showing when we process payment on the state website. Are rates updated automatically or is this something we should be reviewing/updating? If it is different for every NetSuite account, is there a way to check ours to see if it is automatic?
