How to set up a Workflow that converts a Lead into a Partner record?

I'm trying to understand the easiest solution to convert a Lead (Customer record) into a Partner record. Basically I need to create a new Partner record sourcing the info from the Lead (Customer record) and then eliminate the record.

There is a native function to convert Leads into Contacts records but not into Partners.

When I come back from a tradeshow and I have a bunch of leads to be processed, some of them are classified as partners but there is not easy way to convert them.

I'm sure that this can be easily done with a script, but my question is:
