We are in the process of setting up WMS.
Can anyone shed any light on what is the difference between the two items fields Item Process Group' itemprocessgroup and 'WMS Item Group' custitem_wmsse_itemgroup and how these work in relation to each other? The same with Families.
If I create a new WMS Item Group - then the new record automatically also gets created as an Item Process Group - but not vice versa.
I know for example I can only see WMS groups and families when creating pick strategies (not Item Process Groups etc).
On this basis we had left the non-WMS fields blank on items and only populated the WMS versions. Is this the correct approach? What do the non-WMS item groups and family fields do?
Interestingly we have a Item Family "Bulky" which is set on items that are heavy or awkward. I wanted to use this when creating waves to separate out orders that do/do not include these items. However the way our operation works is that the full order would need to be released to one wave (ie we cannot split it into separate waves due to staging and packing restrictions further down the line); however using the standard item process family filter on the wave criteria only returns those lines items, rather than "any line item is bulky" with all lines on the order being added to the wave.
In trying to find a work around I created a custom wave search including WMS Item Family on the results tab so the user could manually see this information and act accordingly. In doing so, I seem to be tripping a suitescript error which prevents me from viewing any item records whenever I edit the wave search!
I therefore wondered if I should be using the standard Item Family field for this rather than the WMS one - but before I go down that route and update all of items I just wanted to know if anyone a) knew more about both sets of fields and b) had any experience of something similar to what I cam trying to do
