How do I create a Fixed Asset for an Assembly Item and Its Components?

So I have this documentation on how to Convert Assembly Item to Fixed Asset.

I believe what I want is for my assembly item to be a compound asset? I want the components inside of it to all have their own depreciation and the top level to have its own fixed asset record as well.

I'm not sure how to achieve this, as asset proposals are only suggesting the top level assembly item for asset creation, not as a compound asset and not with the components nor the components separately. I think what NetSuite wants instead is for me to build assets for all the components and then manually create a compound asset for the assembly item? But if it's suggesting assets for the assembled items and not the components then I'm not sure how to start the process.
