How to display a 36 month saved search for sales

I currently use the formula " decode(to_char({trandate},'MM'),1,{amount},0)" in my saved search for monthly sales for a 12 month calendar year. How do I adjust this formula or create a new formula if I wanted to create a 36 or 48 month monthly sales report.
